Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world, encompassing body, mind and spirit.

Anyone can practice Yoga. You do not need special equipment or clothing, just a place to practice and a strong desire for a healthier, more fulfilled life. The Yogic physical exercises are called Asanas, a term which means steady pose. This is because the Yoga Asana (or posture) is meant to be held for some time.  Yoga asanas exercise every part of the body, stretching and toning the muscles and the joints, the spine as well as the entire skeletal system. Yoga also works the organs, glands and nerves keeping all the body's systems in radiant health.

Yogic breathing exercises, known as pranayama revitalize the body and help us to control our minds, leaving us feeling calm and refreshed. Yoga teaches us how to use the lungs to their maximum capacity and how to control the breath. Proper breathing should be deep, slow and rhythmical. This increases vitality and mental clarity.

During these 60-90 minute classes  you will develop strength and flexibility while improving your posture, circulation and concentration. With a consistent Yoga practice you will find an increase in your vital lung capacity and energy levels. It will also help to relieve your stress and anxiety.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga focuses on relaxing the body in restful postures. It is a therapeutic form of yoga which utilizes props to support your body in certain poses, and consequently, you are able to surrender to the pose more easily.

During this class you will spend time relaxing and recharing your body and mind. Low lights, a calming atmosphere and supportive props make this a deeply relaxing class. The pace is slow and the postures are held for many breathe cycles. The poses are calming and relaxing. After this class you will feel restored, refreshed and relaxed. All levels are welcome and no prior yoga experience is necessary.

Meditation

Meditation is an experience that cannot be described, just as colors cannot be described to a blind man. All ordinary experience is limited by Time, Space and Causation. Our normal awareness and understanding do not transcend these bounds. The meditative state transcends all such limitations. In it there is neither past nor future, but only the consciousness of "I am" in the eternal NOW. It is only possible when all mental modifications are stilled.

Here is the most important point of all, we become what we think. Thus we should exert to entertain positive and creative thoughts as these will contribute to vibrant health and a peaceful, joyful mind. A positive outlook on life can be developed by learning and practicing the teachings of the philosophy of Vedanta. The mind will be brought under perfect control by regular practice of meditation.

When the surface of a lake is still, one can see to the bottom very clearly. This is impossible when the surface is agitated by waves. In the same way, when the mind is still, with no thoughts or desires, you can see the "Self" this is called Yoga

During this 30 minute class we will discuss and practice a variety of meditation techniques and excercises. Meditation classes are free to the public.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga with its foundation in Ashtanga. The asanas (postures) mirror those of Ashtanga, but are done in a free-flowing sequence. Each instructor brings their own distinct style and sequence into their instruction.

During this class you will be lead through a dynamic vinyasa flow designed to challenge all levels of yoga students while enhancing inner peace, balance, and gratitude.

Pilates

The Pilates method of exercise is designed to stretch, strengthen and balance our physical body.  Pilates has proven to be invaluable not only as an exercise form but also as a professional sports training and physical rehabilitation tool. Its methods allow us to safely improve our health without experiencing a negative impact to our bodies.

In Pilates the quality of movement is valued over the quantity of repetitions. Its breath work is essential to helping you execute movements with power and efficiency. Pilates exercises build a strong “CORE” or center of the body. Controlling these deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles that are closest to the spine allow us to be more integrated with our trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.

During this body conditioning class you will gain muscle control, flexibility, coordination, strength and tone. You will learn how to experience movement from the inside out.
